Identities in Times of Globalization

"Identities in Times of Globalization "
- Impulses of political discomfort
"Who am I?" - The search for identity is deeply rooted with in every human being.

For me, identity is an ongoing process of one's own development, which changes according to the life situation and is strongly linked to that of society. Even though every human being is an individual, we all belong to a society.

Nazim Hikmet: “To live like a tree, lonely and free / To live as brothers like trees in a forest / That dream is ours.” I agree with him.

The concept of globalization is an inexhaustibly debatable resource at levels such as politics, religion, culture, economics and much more. Without industrialization and interdependence of different groups of people, a universal development of the world economy would never have occurred and influenced the cultures. Today's information and communication systems make it possible to broaden their horizons and perspectives. We are no longer exposed to the microcosm of prescribed rules, patterns of thought and behavior. From my perspective, without globalization, my spiritual development would not have taken place to that extent.
During the immigration flood of the 60s, my parents migrated to Germany while I stayed behind with my grandparents at 9 months of age. After 4 years, my parents came back for me to join them… uprooted...in a strange environment, with strangers and a foreign language. To work in the traditional, family environment and at the same time to integrate myself into the Western culture meant for me to break with traditions, to cross borders. As a woman, I have taken up taboo topics such as self-determination and free choice of mate - a balancing act between the Orient and the Occident. I was able to filter out the right values from both cultures. It has made me a more flexible and tolerant person.

With my works, I would like to emphasize the personal development and uniqueness of the individual, but also accept the challenge of allowing different cultures in order to meet them with more tolerance and respect.

Impression...
One would like to understand mankind throughout the ages, in the interplay of social environments,  in their history and in their own endeavors.

Through the ability to search, to experiment, to learn from the richness of being, in its depth and breadth, and thereby from the other, to come home.

"Unity in Diversity", a much-touted formula, the goal:  a lived reality within the self.

Patience, meticulousness, concentration, devotion meet with exuberance, enthusiasm and zest for life -
without ecstatic rapture and confusion, not a cry of despair - the clear, warm-hearted grasp of the basics, the truly important thing, ultimately that which is essential.

Here the versatile, combative, strong yet gentle artist offers no résumé, no conclusion.

Her attentive eye bestows a mischievous smile, greets all in her sphere, rather in her – what is the plural of "HOME"?- with a sincere welcome.
